The honest time breakdown on a typical five-process engagement

A five-process transformation engagement at a 200-person company, pre-AI, took most independent consultants eight to twelve weeks of real effort. The scope was typical: map current state, identify bottlenecks, design target state, recommend tools, deliver a roadmap. The fee sat between $45k and $90k depending on seniority and geography. Monday and Tuesday: stakeholder interviews for processes four and five. Roughly three hours each, plus an hour of write-up per interview. Twelve hours consumed. Wednesday: building the current-state swimlane for process four in Visio from Tuesday's notes. Seven hours, late finish. Thursday: bottleneck identification workshop with the operations director.
